Split

A so-called "split" is also part of the standard repertoire of a BlackJack player. If the player receives a card with the same value twice in the first round of spending, the player may split it up and play it as two separate hands. This means that he gets a new card added to both cards and thus has two hands in front of him. For the additional hand, the player must place the same bet again that he had already placed for the first hand.

Double Down

The Double Down is a move that can be used in a fairly promising situation. A double down is announced when all players have received two cards. The player gets the right to double his bet, but can and only needs to receive one card for this. A double down is usually played when the value of the card hand is between nine and eleven.

Surrender

Surrender means giving up and can then be announced before the dealer receives his card. If you give up early, you can secure half of your bet. A surrender is not possible in all casinos. Push/Tie

Push and tie are two terms for the same game situation. Now we are no longer in the game actions, but in the situations. A push/tie occurs when the value of the player's and the dealer's hands is the same. The player will then receive the bet back.

Bust

A bust is the worst result for the player. You have overbettered yourself because the value of your own hand has risen above 21. You have now automatically lost your bet, regardless of whether the dealer is still overbought or not. A central part of the game is to estimate how high the risk is for the bust in a hit and whether you should take it depending on the dealer's first card.

blackjack

A BlackJack is the best hand there is in the game "BlackJack". It consists of an ace and a 10 card, i.e. king, queen, jack or 10. A BlackJack that can only form from two cards automatically wins the round.

Even Money

"Even Money" is called when the player gets paid exactly the amount that he has also deposited. This is the usual payout for a win against the bank. The money that has been wagered will therefore be doubled and paid out.

First Base

If you are sitting on first base, you are the player who first gets the cards from the dealer. In BlackJack, this can have advantages and disadvantages. The seat is usually directly to the left of the dealer. The player at first base is also referred to as the "first baseman".

Last Base

If you are sitting on the last base, the last thing you do is get the cards before it is the dealer's turn. This can have both advantages and disadvantages. The player on the last base usually sits directly to the right of the dealer. The Last baseman is also referred to as the last baseman.

Hole Card

Once the players have received their cards, it is the dealer's turn. He also receives two cards, of which, however, only one card is open. The other card, which lies face down in front of the dealer, is the so-called "hole card". There can also be multiple hole cards.

Insurance

An insurance (insurance) in BlackJack is a side bet that a player can make in the event that the dealer's first card is an ace. If the dealer reveals an ace for himself, an insurance can be announced. The side bet works as insurance against a possible BlackJack that is in front of the dealer. If the dealer actually has a BlackJack, the player wins the side bet and gets it paid out 2:1. However, if the dealer does not have BlackJack, the player loses the side bet and the bet on the insurance is lost. After that, the game will continue as normal.

Shoes

The shoe or shoe is one of the most important tools of a croupier or dealer. It is a container that can store up to eight decks of cards. The shoe is usually made of plastic or wood and the cards for the game are taken from it. Stiff

There is both a stiff hand and a stiff card and both variants are not particularly positive for the player. A stiff hand is a hand whose value is between 12 and 16. With this hand you have a bad chance of winning. With another card, there is a risk that you will exceed the 21 points and if you stop, the dealer can beat his own hand very easily.

The dealer's face-up card is called a stiff card if it has a value between 2 and 6. Here it depends on the second card, whether the stiff card was good or bad for the dealer. In contrast to the player, however, dealer must adhere to fixed rules regarding the drawing of further cards. As a rule, the dealer has to draw another card under 17 points and he stops immediately or above.
